My schools in Shenzhen, ChinaI have taught in two different schools and districts (Nanshan and Bao' an) in Shenzhen, China over four years. At each school I taught the same group of students for their grade 8 and 9 years. Most classes in each school have a total of 50-55 students, however through my program with the Richmond School District, BC I taught 32 students in my first school and at my second school had classes of 26 students each. In China, at the end of grade 9 students write the high school entrance exam, the Zhongkao. After grade 9, students will either enter a high school if their scores are high enough on the Zhongkao. If their scores are not high enough for high school, yet strong enough they will be able to enter a trade school. Finally, if their scores are overall too low their only option is to enter the work force. Below are some images from my first school, and then a video diary I made with the help of two of my students from my second school.
