
Linsie Kolshuk BA, BEd, MA
Linsie was born in Montreal, PQ Canada and grew up in Vancouver, BC. After starting a degree in Criminology and completing a certificate Linsie found her passion for history and transferred to Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in History. The following fall she began studies at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC where she pursued a Master’s of Arts in Intercultural and International Communications. While attending Royal Roads she followed her interest in teaching, and supporting children with specific learning challenges, and completed her certification as an Orton-Gillingham tutor. Following her desire to become an educator Linsie enrolled in the education program at Simon Fraser University (SFU) Burnaby, BC. While at SFU Linsie was part of the International Teacher Education Module, India, where she completed her first teaching practicum in Dharamsala, India. After successfully completing her BEd, with a minor in Environmental Education, Linsie was invited into the Golden Key International Honour Society for her academic accomplishments.
Linsie currently teaches for the Richmond, BC School District as a high school English Language Learner (ELL) specialist teacher. In her first four years with Richmond Linsie worked for the district’s International Student Programs in Shenzhen, China where she taught Grades 8 and 9 English. In addition to teaching, in her last two years, she held a secondary administrative position as the programs Leadership Liaison. With a desire to further her qualifications and prepare for her return to Canada Linsie began studies through Queen’s University, ON in Special Education and English as a Second Language Instruction in 2014. Linsie subsequently completed her certificates in 2015 and 2016. Upon her return to Canada Linsie taught for two years as a Learning Resource and ELL specialist teacher at the Kindergarten to Grade 7 level.
As an educator Linsie aims to support her students' development in critical thinking, to have a growth mind set and to strengthen their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. As a specialist teacher Linsie enjoys working to build inclusive environments and finding creative ways to use student’s individual strengths to engage and support them to express their thoughts, feelings and opinions. Linsie believes learning is not solely contained to a classroom, and encourages her students to pursue learning through the critical exploration of the world around them, and to pursue life long learning.
On a personal note Linsie lives in the community of Ladner in Delta, BC with her Standard Poodle Scarlett. She enjoys running and has completed half marathons in France and Hong Kong, and a full marathon in Shenzhen, China. Linsie has a love for travel and has backpacked through Europe, India, and Southeast Asia. Linsie has a passion for cooking, baking and has been a certified Cake-Decorating Instructor. When not in the classroom Linsie enjoys exploring the Ladner Village Market, local beaches with Scarlett and time with family and friends.
